Obituary For Zana L. Freeman

Zana L. Freeman, 100, of Steubenville, Ohio, passed away on October 3, 2026, surrounded by family and close friend and pastor, Fr. Jack McCoy. Zana was born on September 30, 1926, in Webster Springs, WV, daughter of the late William & Angie Nettie Tracy.

Zana moved to Toronto, Ohio, with family, residing and working until she met the love of her life, Patrick I. Freeman, Sr. They were married for 49 years at the time of Patrick’s passing. Zana & Patrick raised six children, worked their 108-acre farm, and later owned and operated Pat’s Carry Out until their retirement.

Along with her parents and Patrick Sr., Zana is preceded in death by eight of her nine siblings, son Patrick Jr., and daughter-in-law Barbara Freeman. Zana is survived by her five children, daughter and caregiver Debra (Daniel) Wood, with whom she resided; sons Timothy, Thomas, William & Wesley Freeman, all of Bergholz, Ohio; brother-in-law Thomas Knight of Lorain, Ohio; 14 grandchildren; 9 great-grandchildren; brother William (Patricia) Tracy, Jr. of Jefferson, PA; several nieces & nephews and close friends Cindy & Floyd Stewart.

Zana, a devoted Roman Catholic, was a long-time member of St. Joseph Church and a member of the CWC. Zana will be greatly missed, known for her sweet smile, giving heart, her love of flowers, and family pets.

Zana’s family wishes to thank everyone for making Zana’s 100th birthday special with cards and joining our celebration. Thanks also goes to Fr. Jack McCoy and Dr. Columbus of UPMC Trinity Emergency Department for his kindness and understanding.

Friends may call at Our Lady of Lourdes Catholic Church, 1521 Bantam Ridge Road, Wintersville, Ohio, on Thursday from 10 a.m. until the time of the Funeral liturgy with Mass at 12 p.m. with Fr. Jack McCoy officiating. Burial at Fort Steuben Burial Estates.
