Obituary For Sue Pizzoferrato

Sue Pizzoferrato passed away peacefully on Saturday, August 15, 2026 at her residence in The Brooke Memory Care at The Inn At Library Way in Hilliard, Ohio

Sue was born in Pratola Peligna, Abruzzo, Italy on September 1st, 1929, the daughter of the late Liberato and Emilia (Casasanta) DeStefanis.

Preceded in death by her loving husband Joseph Pizzoferrato, brothers, John DeStefanis, Enrico “Henry” DeStefanis and Americo DeStefanis.

Survived by her daughter Mary Elizabeth (Nick) D’Anniballe of New York, son John (Shellie) Pizzoferrato of Columbus, grandchildren Michael and Nicole D’Anniballe, Anthony and Lisa Pizzoferrato and great-grandson Carter Swanson as well as several nieces and nephews.

She retired from Big Bear Stores in 1997 after 26 years of service. She was a devout Catholic and parishioner and member of the Women’s Club of Blessed Sacrament Church in Wintersville.

Sue enjoyed daily walks and coffee chats with her friends, cooking, baking and was a talented seamstress in her younger years. She always had a smile and was known for her friendliness, generosity and was very independent. She will be greatly missed by all.

Friends may call at Dunlope-Shorac Funeral Home, 215 Fernwood Road, Wintersville on Saturday from 10:30 a.m. until the time of services at 12:30 p.m. with Rev. Michael Gossett officiating. Entombment at Mt. Calvary Cemetery.

Dear Jonnie and Liz. You have my deepest sympathy. You mother was a wonderful neighbor. She showed me how to make her Easter bread and some of her cookie receipts. When she would come over I told her I'm not as neat and spotless as you so don't look around real hard. She would just laugh. I thought of her often when we got our new neighbors. Take care of yourselves and I will think of your mom every time I make her recipes.

Please accept my sincere sympathy for the loss of Sue. Sue and I were among the original hires at Harts. We worked together in the Domestic department for awhile. The rest of those years we were friends. I am now living in Hilliard, Oh and wish I had known she was here too. May God comfort with the knowledge that you will meet again in a better place.
