Obituary For David W. Matthews

David W. Matthews, 87, of Steubenville, Ohio passed away on March 7, 2026 at home surrounded by his loving family. He was born on January 31, 1939 in Bloomingdale, Ohio a son of the late William & Jessie Mae Wilburn Matthews. David worked for 35 years with International Mill Service.

An avid hunter and fisherman, David was a lifetime member of the Mingo Sportsman’s Club where he served many roles from President, Vice President and Board of Directors. His most important role was that of a loving father, grandfather, and great-grandfather.

David is preceded in death by his siblings Ronald Dean Matthews, Joyce Rine & Betty Jean Ruttencutter. He is survived by his sons Rick Matthews, Gary (Sharon) Matthews & Todd (Patty) Matthews; six grandchildren Elizabeth (Joe) Berry, Todd Matthews, Caitlin Matthews, Justin (Chandra) Matthews, Rebekah Matthews & Ashlee (Patrick) Stevenson; four great-grandchildren & one great-great grandchild and siblings Donald (Donna) Matthews, Dorothy Denhart & Earl Calvin Matthews.

Friends may call at Dunlope-Shorac Funeral Home, 215 Fernwood Road, Wintersville, Ohio on Wednesday from 5 pm – 7 pm with additional visitation on Thursday from 10 am until the time of services at 11 am with Shawn Ford officiating. Burial at New Alexandria Cemetery.

    Dave, Was a wonderful man, And he will be missed by so many of us, Dave was very proud of his three sons, And they were there for him thru out his life, And they were with him thru the end of Dave's journey. Dave was a hard worker, avid fisherman, Hunter and a loyal Cleveland Browns fan. Rest in peace Dave . We were blessed to know you. Until we meet again .....God Bless.
