William W. “Bill” Whanger, 94, of Steubenville, Ohio left this earth to dwell in Heaven with his Lord and Savior and his loved ones who are already there waiting to greet him. He was born January 5, 1930 in Wilkinsburg, PA a son of the late Wyatt & Helen Alexander Whanger. Bill proudly served his country in the US Marine Corp during the Korean conflict. He then worked for 35 years at Weirton Steel. Bill was a member of Two Ridges Presbyterian Church where he served as sexton, elder and custodian for 28 years, a member of the National Rifle Association, American Legion 32nd degree, Masonic Lodge 45 and the 25-year club with Weirton Steel.
Bill was preceded in death by his loving wife of 68 years, Wanda M. Hoover Whanger. He is survived by his daughter Joyce Ann King; three sons Bill Roy (Bunny) Whanger, D. Wyatt Whanger and Allan (Michelle) Whanger; eight grandchildren Jennifer (Jim) King-Bane, Jeffrey John (Maddie) King, Jason (Tera) Whanger, Amanda (Jamie) Komonich, Rachel (Jeff) Corona, Christian (Kaitlin) Whanger, Taylor (Jac) Chaffee and Josh Stephen; sixteen great-grandchildren Jayna Ziklo, Jeffrey James Bane, Maximus & Carter King, Alyssa Kittle, Julia & Billy Whanger, Cameron, Cole & Corey Komonich, Ryden, Marcus & Leah Corona, Tiegan & Jac Jr. Chaffee and Arya Whanger; sister Shirley Petras and two brothers Robert Whanger & David (Shirley) Whanger.
Per Bill’s request a private service was held at the convenience of the family. Burial at Union Cemetery. Bill’s family would like to extend a special thank you to Valley Hospice.
In lieu of flowers or trees, memorial donations may be directed to Two Ridges Presbyterian Church, 1085 Canton Road, Wintersville, Ohio 43953.
