William “Bill” Paul Block passed into the arms of his Heavenly Father on Tuesday, January 31, 2017 at the Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland, OH. He was born on July 30, 1952, to the late Lucian P. and Lucille (Schumacher) Block. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his sister Charlotte Block. He was a 1970 graduate of La Salle High School in Cincinnati, OH. One of the greatest events in Bill's life was when, on March 7, 1977, at 24 years of age, Bill accepted Jesus Christ as his personal Savior, and thus became a Born Again Christian. He later followed in believer’s baptism at Landmark Baptist Church in Cincinnati, OH. He married his loving wife Tammy (Dahlheimer) Block on May 13, 1978. Together they have 2 children. Bill began his life of ministry as a church bus driver at Landmark Baptist Church. Later he went on to have an instrumental role in the founding of the Fellowship Tract League in Lebanon, OH. In 1987 he followed the call of God in becoming the pastor of Truth Baptist Church in Steubenville, OH, where he faithfully served as pastor until his retirement in 2016. He continued to serve as adult Sunday School teacher at the church as well as held weekly church services for the residents at the Carriage Inn Nursing Home. Bill's main goal and purpose in life was to tell everyone he came into contact with how they could be sure they were on their way to heaven by trusting Jesus Christ and accepting His gift of Everlasting Life. He lived a life that honored God in both his private and public affairs. In recent years, some of his greatest joys were spending time with his grandkids “making memories”. He is survived by his beloved wife, Tammy; son Tim (Amanda) Block; daughter Sarah Block; 10 grandchildren, Annabelle, Makayla, Brianna, Caleb, Gracie, Josh, Daniel, Levi, Zachy and Titus; sisters Judy (Steve) Spaner, Lois (Dave) Lutes, Donna (Mike) Melas, Janet (John) Morgan, Betty (Bob) Weyda, Mary (Steve) Mueller, Rita (Glen) Epure, Alice (Mark) Wilson; and brother John (Anna) Block and many nieces and nephews. Calling hours for friends and family will be Friday, February 3, from 7-9 pm. at Truth Baptist Church, 708 Lincoln Ave. Steubenville. There will be an additional visitation from 10 until the time of funeral service at 11 a.m. on Saturday morning February 4 at the Truth Baptist Church, Pastor Tim Block officiating. Burial service will follow at the Union Cemetery. Memorial contributions may be directed to the church. Friends and family are invited to Truth Baptist Church after the burial for lunch.
