William “Skitch“ Kerr 92 of Steubenville, Ohio died Monday, November 28, 2005 at Trinity West. He was born in Donora, Pennsylvania on July 22, 1913 a son of the late Peter Craig and Jessie Smith Kerr who where both born in Shotts, Scotland. Preceding Skitch in death were his wife Flora Lucille McCullough on July 12, 1989; two sisters Marion Ross and Edith Antill; two brothers George and Thomas Kerr and a half brother John Aitchison of Scotland. Skitch retired from Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel Corp. as a boiler repairman. He was a member of Wintersville United Methodist Church; P.N.A.; Wintersville American Legion Post #557; Pilgrim Lodge #691 F&AM. He served during WWII in the US Navy as a gunnersmate third class in both the European and Asiatic Pacific Theatres where he was highly decorated for his service. He participated in the invasions of Iwo Jima, Volcano Islands and Okinawa Shima, Ryukyus Islands. Surviving are his daughter Mentha J. Moore and grandson Robbie K. Moore III of Steubenville; sisters-in-law Ota and Rachel McCullough of Wintersville; one niece and several nephews. Friends may call at the Dunlope-Shorac Funeral Home, 215 Fernwood Road, Wintersville on Wednesday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. On Thursday, friends may call at Wintersville U.M. Church from 10:30 a.m. until the time of services at 11 a.m. with Rev. Clint Quillen officiating. Burial at Union Cemetery. Masonic services 6 p.m. Wednesday Ohio Valley Veterans Memorial Squad will conduct services the cemetery. Memorial contributions directed to Wintersville United Methodist Church.
