William “Herk” Wood, 88, of Amsterdam, Ohio passed away on September 17, 2025 at Weirton Medical Center. Herk was born on May 28, 1937 a son of the late Evan P. & Ada Huscroft Wood. He was a 1955 graduate of Jefferson Union High School and served in the US Army. Herk retired as an Electrician from the Weirton Steel Corporation.
Herk loved farming and tending to his herd of cattle. He was one of the cofounders of the Purple Circle 4H club and his family farm, Wood and Company Club Calves. He was a wonderful father and grandfather who loved to stop at his favorite spot the Mar-Ta-Lee for a Black raspberry milkshake.
Herk is preceded in death by his parents, Evan & Ada; great-grandson Daxton and siblings Evelyn Breslyn, Sally Tatlinger & John Wood. He is survived by his children Todd (Marie) Wood, Cliff (Emilee) Wood, Jeff (Brenda) Wood & Ted (girlfriend – Heather Barr) Wood; grandchildren Kayla (Greg) Fogle, Boady Wood, Jeff (Julie) Wood, Paden (Cylene) Wood, Dalton Wood & James (Rachel) Wood; eight great-grandchildren Isabel, Addie, Cyden, Paxton, Oliver, Evangeline, Malachi & Noah; sisters Jeanne Long & Ada Brimlow and ex-wife Shirlene Trent Wood, who were married for over 50 years.
Per Herk’s wishes, there will be no services.
