William D. “Bill” Crothers Sr., 84, of Wintersville, passed away Thursday, April 18, 2019 at Valley Hospice, Steubenville. He was born February 9, 1935 in Adena, Ohio the son of the late Lawrence D. and Adeline M. Cramer Crothers. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Elizabeth A. Kotora Crothers and a sister and brother-in-law Violet and Paul Terpenning. Bill was retired as a payroll clerk from Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel Co. He was a member of the First Church of Nazarene in Steubenville where he was an active trustee; member of Steubenville Masonic Pilgrim Lodge #691 and sang with “Temple Trio” locally for many years. Bill enjoyed painting and mastered the canvas, always willing to show his latest painting. He was a veteran of the US Air Force. Bill is survived by his children Karen (Richard) Mathieu of Bloomingdale, William D. “Bill” Crothers Jr. of Wintersville, two grandchildren Dr. Erica (Jeff) Mathieu-Moorman of Cincinnati and Dr. Brandon Mathieu of Dayton and a great granddaughter Grace Elizabeth Moorman and faithful canine companion “Biscuit”. Friends may call at the Dunlope-Shorac Funeral Home, 215 Fernwood Road, Wintersville on Monday from 10 a.m. until the time of funeral service 12:30 p.m. Pastor Troy Thacker officiating. Burial will follow in Fort Steuben where Ohio Valley Veterans Memorial Squad will accord full military honors. Memorial contributions may be directed to Jefferson County Humane Society, 200 Airpark Dr, Wintersville, OH 43953.
