Wayne Fitzgerald 79 of Wintersville, Ohio, loving husband, father and grandfather went to live with his Lord on January 6, 2003. Wayne was born on September 2, 1923 in New Martinsville, WV, one of thirteen children of William and Lucy Batton Fitzgerald. A veteran of the US Marine Corps, Wayne was awarded the Purple Heart for wounds received in the Pacific during WWII. He married Mary Lou Renner on September 12, 1946 and was married for 46 years until her death on March 20, 1993. He was preceded in death by a grandson A.J. Moray and nine brothers and sisters. Wayne is survived by his wife Roma Virden Fitzgerald whom he married on May 13, 1995; two daughters Jeanie Fitzgerald of Turners Falls, MA and Joyce (William) Moray of Wheeling, WV; one stepdaughter Dyann Rogers of Wintersville; one stepson Glenn Virden of Richmond, Ohio; four grandchildren and three sisters. Wayne was a member of Plumbers and Pipefitters Union Local 490 retiring in 1982 after 35 years of service. He was a member of Wintersville Baptist Temple and New Martinsville American Legion Post 28. Friends may call at Dunlope-Shorac Funeral Home, 215 Fernwood Road, Wintersville, Ohio on Wednesday 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. where services will be held at 10 a.m. Thursday with Pastor John Beard officiating. Burial at Greenlawn Memorial Park, New Martinsville, WV. American Legion Post 28 will conduct services at cemetery. Memorial contributions may be made to Wintersville Baptist Temple.
