Wayne Elliott Spurlock, known to many of us as “Uncle Wayne,” died after a brief illness on March 17th surrounded by his loving family. His memorial service will be held on Friday, March 31; visitation at 2:00, memorial service at 3:00 at Dunlope-Shorac Funeral Home, 215 Fernwood Road in Wintersville, Ohio.
Wayne was born on September 13, 1952, to Charles A. Spurlock and Mozella M. Spurlock in Huntington, WV. He is survived by his brother, Stephen B. Spurlock, nieces Emily J. Brown (Tim), and Sarah K. Spurlock Biggs (Jim), and nephew Mitchell E. Spurlock (Rana), great nephews Elliott and Andy Brown, Charlie and Owen Biggs, and great niece Elise Spurlock.
Wayne was predeceased by his parents, his sister-in-law, Martha A. Spurlock, and his nephew Stephen Charles (Charlie) Spurlock.
Wayne received a master's degree in Piano Performance from Marshall University. He served as a church choir director, a professor of music, and was a private saxophone and piano teacher.
When Wayne was not busy being a professional musician, he could be found fishing and playing keyboards and saxophone in bands all around the Ohio Valley.
Wayne was deeply supportive and caring of his family, friends, students, and fellow musicians. He loved us so well and will be missed terribly.

Wayne was not only a great musician he was a great friend and was very reliable and was a lot of fun to be around! I had the honor of knowing Wayne and playing music with Wayne for the last 10 + years in Xtremely Loaded. He will be missed by everyone in the band and all of his friends and fans everywhere. Gary from Scooters loved it when Wayne would play there and made magic everything he played his sax there. God bless you Wayne you will be forever missed and loved by everyone in Xtremely Loaded.
