Obituary For Wanda M. Magyer

Wanda Mae Magyer, 83, of Steubenville, Ohio peacefully passed away on Saturday, February 4, 2012 at Carriage House Assisted Living with family at her side. She was born July 1, 1928 in Adena, Ohio a daughter of the late John & Katherine Kovalcyk Brodzinski. Preceding Wanda in death were her husband Daniel Magyer on February 20, 2010, three brothers Henry, Bill and Mitchell Brodzinski, and sister Helen Waldman. She is survived by her son Dennis Magyer, his wife Mary and their two daughters Michelle & Melissa of Steubenville; daughter Nancy Magyer and Mark Gutowitz of Charlotte, NC; siblings Elizabeth (late Mike) Olexia of Astor, FL, John (Joanne) Brodzinski of Alliance, OH, Virginia (Robert) Miller of Beloit, OH, and Joe (Martha) Brodzinski of Alliance, OH.  Wanda was a faithful member of St. John the Baptist Byzantine Catholic Church and Our Lady Guild in Mingo Jct., OH.  During the many years she and Dan wintered in Florida, they were active members of Holy Dormition Byzantine Catholic Church in Ormond Beach.  An immaculate housekeeper, she loved to cook, sew, craft, garden and shop.  She relished the simple life, doting on family, friends and her faith.  Wanda was a dedicated, loving and caring wife, mother, and baba, relishing time with her two granddaughters Michelle, a freshman at West Virginia University and Melissa, a freshman at Steubenville High School.  Her smile, giggle and sweet disposition became very distinguishing traits, which will be forever remembered and so sadly missed.  Wings truly befit her.  Thanks to all of you who touched her life in any way and especially to each of the caring staff, residents, friends and clergy of Carriage House Assisted Living.  Her life was so enriched by your daily love and support. Blessings and sincere gratitude to the clergy and parishioners at her church who faithfully prayed, visited, sent cards and brought gifts throughout the years.  Friends may call at Shorac Funeral Home (formerly McClave), 611 N. Fourth St., Steubenville this Saturday, from 9 a.m. – Noon. Funeral liturgy with mass will follow at 12:45 p.m. at St. John the Baptist Byzantine Church (207 Standard Ave., Mingo Jct., OH 43938) with Rev. Fr. James Atkins officiating. Burial will immediately follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery in Steubenville.  In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to St. John the Baptist Byzantine Catholic Church and mailed to the above Standard Ave. address.

Dennis and Family, I wish to extend my deepest sympathy on the passing of Mom. When my sister, Odessa, was at the Carriage House, I grew to love your Mom and got to meet you and your lovely family. Since Odessa passed away last January, I continued to visit all of my friends there. Your Mom always had a smile for me. I want you to know that I asked Fr. Bradley Greer to bless your Mom last Friday afternoon after his Mass. Wanda always attended Mass. FR. Nau used to go pick her up and take her to the Mass when he celebrated it. Anyway, I want to think that Fr. Greer's prayers led the angels to take your Mom straight to heaven. May she rest in peace. I will be away and will miss her funeral. But, I will keep her and your family in my prayer. Love, Gloria Renda

I am so sorry to hear about Wanda. We shared some special moments while growing up that I will always cherish. We had such good times with your parents in their home, and they are the fondest memories of days gone by...I still can see their smiles and hear laughter when I think of them... I know that she was so very proud of her children and grandchildren. May G-d Bless her as she rests in peace with Dan...

It's been many years since we were neighbors on Sinclair Ave., but I remember your mother well. My parents passed away in 2007 and 2008, and I still feel the loss. God bless you as you grieve but always be thankful for the parents you had.
