Walter A. Wilson (Squire) 93 of Steubenville, OH, passed away peacefully on May 4, 2023, at the assisted living facility Grace Cottage of Serra Manor, Weirton.
He was born in Steubenville Ohio to the late John and Florence (Green) Wilson. He was preceded in death by his wife, Anna Mae (McKee) Wilson, and his son Stephen A. Wilson. He was also preceded by his siblings J. Edward, William, James and Marjorie Giles. He is survived by his three daughters, Susan Trapp (Mike), Elaine Wright (Leonard), and Anita Prendergast (Peter); Grandchildren Laura Gawel (Steve), Sean Trapp (Jenna), Kevin Trapp (Katelyn) and Erin Marshall (Conner) and seven Great-grandchildren. He was a proud uncle of his many cherished nephews and nieces.
Squire served in the United States Air Force from 1948 to 1954. He was stationed in Post WWII Germany and he also served stateside. He joined the Steubenville Fire Department in 1954 and retired as a Captain in 1980. He owned Wilson Heating and Cooling and proudly provided HVAC and electrical services to many homes and businesses in the tri-state area.
He was a member of Holy Rosary / Triumph of the Cross Catholic Church where he served as an Usher. Squire never met a stranger and was willing to help his neighbors, friends and family. He was highly respected by his son-in-law’s and will be greatly missed by his family. He loved to travel and visited 43 states and fulfilled a dream in 1971 by taking his wife and four children to Europe and touring several countries.
Friends may call at Dunlope-Shorac Funeral Home, 215 Fernwood Road, Wintersville, Ohio 43953, on Tuesday from 5 pm – 7 pm. Funeral liturgy with mass noon Wednesday at Holy Rosary Church. Burial at Union Cemetery.
The family would like to thank the wonderful staff at the Serra Manor independent living and then the Assisted living at Grace Cottage. He enjoyed the care and friendship of the staff and residents.

Had many great memories of Squire when working with him at the Fire Dept. Although my time was short working with him. I can honestly say he treated me with much professionalism. He was a true gentleman and always put 100% effort on looking out for me. He was a very kind and gentle man. May he rest in peace. My deepest sympathy to his family
