Obituary For Virginia Phyllis Thompson

Virginia P. “Ginny” Thompson, 98, of Steubenville, Ohio, died Saturday, January 10, 2015 at Martha Manor, Steubenville. She was born in Holidays Cove, WV on December 4, 1916, the daughter of the late Newton and Adelia Jarboe Hedges. Preceded in death by her husband, J. Vincent “Vinny” Thompson and grandson, Douglas Thompson; 5 brothers and 2 sisters. She worked as a typist for the TB Association and held church membership at Sycamore Tree Church (formerly Calvary Fifth UMC) where she was secretary for UM women; and a member of Disabled Americans Veterans Auxiliary.

She is survived by her children, Terry (Celestia) Thompson of Toronto, OH and Sandra (Robert) McFadden of Onalaska, WI; 8 grandchildren, 19 great grandchildren and 22 great-great grandchildren; and a sister, Betty Hout of Richmond, OH.

Friends may call at the Dunlope-Shorac Funeral Home, 215 Fernwood Road, Wintersville on Wednesday from 10 a.m. until the time of funeral services at noon. Pastor Steve Modranski officiating. Burial in Union Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be directed to Martha Manor, 408 N. 5th Street, Steubenville, OH 43952.

    What a dear CHRISTIAN lady. i attended Fifth St Methodist Church back in th 1940's and 50's where the Thompons were an active family.............................sincere condolences to you all on the loss of Virginia Thompson

    I've known and been friends with Vinny and Ginny for the 40 years I worked at Union Bank and it's successors in Steubenville, and I've known your Aunt Betty all my life. They all are/were the best possible people.

    Dear Sandy & Terry,I'm very sorry to hear about your Mother's passing. What a wonderful neighbor growing up on Ridge Avenue. I'm sorry I will not be able to attend on Wednesday. I will always remember what a sweet lady she was. May she rest in peace.
