Obituary For Violet F. Retzer

Violet F. “Vi” Retzer 76 of Steubenville, Ohio passed away on Saturday, May 10, 2003 at home of natural causes. She was born in Mingo Junction, Ohio on April 19, 1927 a daughter of the late Anthony and Lucille Yocum Cresta. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Rev. Loretta M. Retzer and a brother Frank Cresta. Violet retired from the Jefferson County Cooperative Extension Service where she was a secretary for 20 years. Also, she worked for 5 years in the Steubenville Public School System and 5 years for the American Cancer Society. She was active in her faith, a member of the Wintersville United Methodist Church and United Methodist Women in Wintersville, Ohio Past president of the Ohio Council of Churches and Steubenville Council of Churches, past president of Urban Mission, member of the Missions Commission of The East Ohio United Methodist Conference and a former Sunday School teacher. Violet is survived by her husband of 57 years, Arland Retzer; two sons, Terry A. Retzer and his wife Wanda of Wintersville and Michael A. Retzer of Pittsburgh, PA.; granddaughter, Nancy M. Shaver and her husband, Gary of Bellaire, Ohio and grandson Zachary Retzer and his mother, Karen Retzer both of Richmond, Ohio; two sisters, Antonette (Rudy) Aceto of Wintersville, and Nina (Jim) Aceto of Steubenville. Friends may call at the Dunlope-Shorac Funeral Home, 215 Fernwood Road, Wintersville on Tuesday from 2-4 p.m. and 6 p.m. until the time of funeral services at 8 p.m. in the funeral home chapel Rev. Clint Quillen and Rev. Sam Retzer, her nephew officiating. Burial at Fort Steuben Burial Estates, Wintersville. Memorial contributions may be directed to American Cancer Society or Wintersville United Methodist Church.
