Vincent P. Chociej Jr., age 94, of Steubenville, died Friday, July 8, 2016 at his residence of natural causes. He was born on November 7, 1921 in Steubenville, the son of the late Vincent and Mary Borkowski Chociej Sr. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Dorothy Marie Mills Chociej, five brothers Alex, Herman, John, Richard and Paul Chociej, five sisters Mary Zebo, Alice Church, Deloris Huber, Margaret Ann “Peggy” Eloi and Clara. Vincent retired from the Weirton Steel Co. as an electrician in the Coke Plant and a member of the 25year club. He was a founding member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church where he served as Usher and active in its Men’s Club. He served during WWII in the U.S. Army 81st Engineers/106 infantry combat Engineers and a survivor of the Battle of the Bulge. He is survived by sons Vincent III (Helen) of Bloomingdale, Michael (Helen) of Hammondsville and David Chociej of Carrollton; six grandchildren Eric, Kevin and Michael Chociej, Michelle (Harley) Reese, Sean and Anthony Chociej; seven great-grandchildren Josh Chociej, Kiera and Audrina Reese, Lily, Carson, Zoie and Trinity Chociej. Friends may call at the Dunlope-Shorac Funeral Home, 215 Fernwood Road, Wintersville on Sunday from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. Funeral liturgy with mass will be held on Monday at 1 p.m. at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church with Msgr. Kurt Kemo officiating. Burial will follow at Mt. Calvary. Memorials may be directed to Disabled American Veterans or Boys Town. Vigil service Sunday 3:45 p.m.

Megan and I are saddened to learn of uncle Vince's death. I will always remember my uncle Vince as a kind and gentle man. For me, at this late date, it is indeed sobering to realize that all of that generation of Chociej parents, aunts and uncles are now gone.
