Obituary For V. Marlee Penebaker

V. Marlee Penebaker died Wednesday, September 14, 2022. She was born on June 27, 1940 in Steubenville, Ohio, a daughter of the late W. Clark and Ruth V. Eddy Williams.

Marlee was a former high school guidance counselor at Toronto High School and Steubenville Catholic Central. She was a teacher in Steubenville City Schools and a counselor in Alhambra School District #68 in Phoenix, AZ. She was also a principal at Trinity Christian Academy. Marlee belonged to Phi Delta Kappa and Phi Theta Kappa, as well as many educational organizations. She was a former member of St. Paul Episcopal Church, where she was a lector, choir member, treasurer and Vestry member. She presently belonged to Holy Family Catholic Church; C.W.C. and St. Francis Society. Marlee was also a secular member of The Third Order of St. Francis.

Preceding Marlee in death were her husbands, John H. Gilcrest, Jr.; Clair Lewis Jenkins and James E. Penebaker; and daughter Karen Elaine Gilcrest in 1993.

Marlee is survived by her son John Gilcrest; aunt Betty Eddy; many cousins and little dog Jazz.

Private burial at Union Cemetery.

Marlee only asked that you remember her in your prayers.

    John, you may not remember me but I shared a room with your grandmother in skilled care. Your mother was one of the last true ladies. We kept in touch for a while but I got too sick to talk much. May our Lord comfort you now and always. In loving friendship, Rita
