Stewart R. “Jack” Ferguson 77 of Steubenville, Ohio died Sunday, August 11, 2002 at Trinity West, Steubenville. He was born in Steubenville, Ohio on January 6, 1925 a son of the late Stewart H. and Virginia Koch Ferguson. Jack joined the Steubenville Fire Department on April 16, 1947 and served as captain from August 1, 1956 until his retirement on September 1, 1971. In 1963, he was the recipient of the Citizen Service Award for active heroism. Jack was an avid gardener and a member of Schwaben Club and P.N.A. He was preceded in death by his wife Sara E. “Betty” Clark Ferguson, whom he married on November 12, 1948 and she died June 29, 1995. Surviving are two sons Raymond (Kitty) Ferguson of Wintersville, Ohio and Robert Ferguson of Steubenville; and three grandchildren Ryan, Kristan and Kerry. Friends may call at Dunlope-Shorac Funeral Home, 215 Fernwood Road, Wintersville on Tuesday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. where services will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday with Rev. Clint Quillen officiating. Burial at Union Cemetery, Steubenville. Memorial contributions may be made to the Steubenville Fire Dept.
