Stella Gipalo Bender, 94, of Steubenville, Ohio died Friday, January 4, 2019 at Woodland Hills Assisted Living in Weirton, WV. She was born August 26, 1924 in Amsterdam, Ohio a daughter of the late Mele & Boya Krajack Gipalo. She was a member of Holy Resurrection Serbian Church; Sveta Petka Kolo; American Legion Post 33 and charter member of The Women’s Memorial #345868. Stella served in the US Navy during WWII and was retired from the physical therapy department at Trinity East. Preceding Stella in death were her husband Arthur D. Bender; granddaughter Sonja Lynn Bara; brother George Gipalo; sisters Mary Girt & Ruby Letzelter.
Stella is survived by her daughters Judy (Earl) McFarland of Wickcliffe, OH, Mary (Perry) Duckworth of Weirton & Debbie (Russ) Frey of Mingo Jct., OH; five grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
Thanks to the entire staff of Woodland Hills for the care and kindness they gave our mom.
Friends may call at Dunlope-Shorac Funeral Home, 215 Fernwood Road, Wintersville, Ohio on Tuesday 4-7 p.m.; where services will be held at noon on Wednesday with Very Rev. Rade Merick officiating. Burial at Fort Steuben. Pomen service 6:30 p.m. Tuesday.
