Sophia Povich, 100, of Wintersville died Wednesday, January 21, 2015 at the Carriage Inn of Steubenville. She was born on May 16, 1914 in Sturgeon, PA a daughter of the late Walter and Antoinette Gechefska Sylanski. She was a member of Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church and had worked in the tin mill at Weirton Steel. In addition to her parents she was preceded in death by her husband Joseph Povich in 1977; an infant son; three sisters and two brothers. Sophia is survived by her sons Joseph R. (Cecilia) Povich of Steubenville and Richard A. Povich of Wintersville; daughter Carol (Brent) Barker of Las Vegas, NV; nephew Robert Ondovic of Pittsburgh, PA; sister-in-law Julie Povich of Saginaw, MI; grandchildren Melissa Tipton, Richard J. Povich, Brent Barker, Jr., Cynthia and Christy Barker; 6 great grandchildren. Friends may call at Dunlope-Shorac Funeral Home, 215 Fernwood Rd., Wintersville, OH on Sunday from 1-4p.m. Funeral liturgy with Mass will be Monday, January 26, 2015, 10a.m. at Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, Wintersville, OH with Msgr. Kurt Kemo as celebrant. Burial at Fort Steuben. Vigil services Sunday 1p.m. The family would like to acknowledge Dr. Prasad, the employees at the Carriage Inn of Steubenville and Deacon Mark. Memorial contributions may be made to the church.
