Shirley Mae Retzer, 79, of Steubenville, Ohio went home to be with the Lord on Sunday, June 1, 2008 in Charleston, WV. She was born on February 10, 1929 in Toronto, Ohio the daughter of the late Mark and Maxine Rolley Anderson. Preceded in death by her husband, Robert E. Retzer and a daughter, Karen Kay Phillips.She was a graduate of Toronto High School and protestant by faith. Shirley held membership with the American Legion Post 33 Ladies Auxiliary and the Polish National Alliance Ladies Auxiliary. She was a long-time employee of Treasure Island of Steubenville, and was a loving mom who always loved to laugh with her five daughters. She was a faithful wife to “Bob” of 54 years. She lived well, loved much, and laughed often.She is survived by her daughters, Donna Liverman of Dallas, TX, Darla (David) Burtnett of Dawsonville, GA, Mary “Lou” (Mike) Surgenor of Springfield, OH and Barbara (David) Anderson of Scott Depot, WV with whom she resided; brother, Robert (Janet) Blanton of Toronto, OH; eight grandchildren, Ernie, David Robert, Kaitlyn, Mellissa, Bethany, Jonathan, Jarrod and Ashton; six great grandchildren; son-in –law, John Phillips of Steubenville; and many nephews, nieces and friends. The family extends a “special thank you” to Patsy Shaffer whom Shirley always thought of her as her “special angel”.Friends may call at the Dunlope-Shorac Funeral Home, 215 Fernwood Road, Wintersville on Tuesday from 2-4 & 7-9 p.m., where funeral services will be held 10 a.m. Wednesday with her son-in-law, Pastor Mike Surgenor officiating. Burial at Union Cemetery.
