Sanford S. Lawrence, Jr., 88, of Washington, PA, formerly of Steubenville, died Tuesday, January 10, 2006 at Washington Hospital. He was born in Adams, TN on October 1, 1917 a son of the late Sanford S. and Bernice Heaton Lawrence, Sr. He was a retired field representative for Insurance Services Office of Steubenville. Sanford was a member and former elder of First Westminster Presbyterian Church and a former member of Indian Creek School Board. He was an active member of Jefferson County Republican Party; Unionport Masonic Lodge 333 F&AM; and Scottish Rite. Sanford served in the Navy during WWII. Preceding Sanford in death were his wife Blanche M. Guthrie Lawrence; two brothers and five sisters. Surviving are four daughters Sandra (Richard) Ritchie of Pittsburgh, PA, Judith Childs of Columbus, OH, Cynthia (Peter) Cola of Severna Park, MD and Dru (Donald) Millward of Bellbrook, OH; seven grandchildren; five great grandchildren; one sister Fannie Ferguson of Steubenville and dear friend Imogene Teramana of Steubenville. Friends are invited to attend a memorial service 3 p.m. Thursday at First Westminster Church, 235 North Fourth Street, Steubenville with Rev. Sue Haseltine officiating. Burial at Fort Steuben. Memorials may be directed to the church or American Lung Association.
