Sandra E. “Sandy” Daugherty 57 of Steubenville died Tuesday, February 22, 2005 at her home of natural causes. She was born in Steubenville on October 16, 1947 a daughter of Mehamet and Eileen Gump Mallas of Steubenville. Sandy retired from Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel’s Cold Strip Department. She was a member of USWA Local #1190 and served with her husband, Edwin Daugherty, as Chairperson of Local #1190’s Special Assistance Committee during the 10.5 month lockout in 1996-1997. She also served as Chairperson of Local #1190’s Bowling League, and was a member of Weirton Women’s Bowling Association. Sandy was a loving and dedicated mother and grandmother. She was a fun and caring friend to everyone she knew. Preceded in death by her husband Edwin Daugherty on March 12, 2002, brother Michael Mallas. In addition to her parents Sandy is survived by daughters Donnita Smith and Heather Smith-Hoover, both of Steubenville, Bobbi Lin (Roland) Renforth of Mingo Junction, son Scott Smith of Steubenville, brothers Larry (Dorie) Mallas of Mingo Junction and Robby (Diana) Mallas of Steubenville, sisters Linda (Anthony) DiNovo of Follansbee, WV and Hazel (Mark) Lowe of Weirton, WV, grandchildren Bobby, Kacy, Ashley, Sterling, Megan, Hannah, Nickolas and Paige. Friends may call at Dunlope-Shorac Funeral Home, 215 Fernwood Rd., Wintersville on Friday 2-4 and 7-9p.m. and Saturday 2-4 and 7-9p.m., where funeral services will be held on Sunday, 1p.m. with Rev. Douglas Shoaff officiating. Burial at Union Cemetery, Steubenville.
