Samuel “Sam” Paul Morris, age 87, of Steubenville, Ohio, died Tuesday, March 12, 2013 at Trinity West. He was born September 15, 1925 in Steubenville, Ohio, a son of the late Walter and Edna Phillips Morris. He was preceded also in death by a daughter, Karen Ruff in 2002 and a brother, John William Morris. He remained a lifelong area residence and a graduate of Steubenville High School where he excelled as a player on the football team. At the early age of eighteen he entered the US Army, serving during WWII with the 450th Military Police Company where he received the Good Conduct Medal and 4 Bronze Stars. Sam was a devoted member and elder at First Westminster Presbyterian Church. A golf enthusiast, he enjoyed playing the courses at Castle Shannon and East Springfield and having breakfast the first Wednesday of the month with his regular group of Buddies. He retired in 1986 from Wheeling Pittsburgh Steel with over 40 years of service as a motor inspector/electrician, where he also had the opportunity to serve as Shop Stewart and Union Secretary.He is survived by his wife, Ruth M. Permar Morris, which they celebrated 67 years of marriage this February; a daughter, Debra (Kenneth “Ken”) Andresen of Steubenville; three grandchildren, Brandon Andresen of Toronto, OH, Dr. Paul (Cindy) Ruff of Starkville, Miss., and Lori (John) Cripple of Long Beach, Miss.; five great grandchildren, Daniel, Craig and Reagan Ruff and Kaylee and Madelyn Cripple; a brother, Russell Morris and a sister, Edna Vinck both of Arizona.Friends may call at the Dunlope-Shorac Funeral Home, 215 Fernwood Road, Wintersville on Friday from 5 – 8 p.m., where funeral services will be held on Saturday at 10 a.m., with Rev. Jason Elliott officiating. Burial will follow at Union Cemetery where Ohio Valley Veterans Memorial Squad will accord military honors
