We are so sorry about your husband and father. Your Dad sold us our first engagement ring and wedding bands 50 years ago. Our anniversary is September 19 this year. We miss him and your Mom. He was always one for a good joke and a smile. Give your Mom a hug from us and Blessings and Prayers to all of you. Jim and Loretta Cottrell.

I happened to be looking at the herald star online today and read of Sam's death.  I met him 60 years ago when my father, Ang, took me into Holiday Distributors.  My dad loved talking to Sam and haggling with him.  I remember going to the Weirton Rec Center and playing racquetball with Sam and watching him destroy me. He was a great person, quick to laugh and always fun to be around.  He was a great supporter of anything Steubenville and will be missed.  I know my father had great respect for him as did I.  Rest In Peace.  Patrick Vaccaro MD

Dear Gwen, "what a guy", just always to get a friendly daily pick-me-up greeting from our Sam was wonderful.  His presence at Fort Steuben Mall was great.  Managing the mall and Wayne's was no small task.  But I could always count on Sam.  The football program was boosted by his participation.  He hosted the receptions with the mall and the Hall of FAME.  He was our best ambassador.  He was my friend & I pray you are comforted by sweet memories.

Sam was such a kind soul. Still is! A TRUE credit to the jewelry profession. I hope for peace and comfort for his family and friends. Steve Amendola

My wife worked for Sam while we lived in Steubenville in the early 2000's. He was always a genuine joy to be around. I always stopped in to pick up my wife when I could, because he was so much fun to talk to! We were new to Steubenville and he treated us like family. He was the last person to ever sell me a piece of gold jewelry! In his honor, I may keep it that way. I was saddened to hear the news today. My deepest wish is for the family to know that he made life better for people in so many ways. He will fondly live on in our memories with joy and gratitude. We loved him too!

Dear  Gwen and Kim and Kris. I played Handball with Sam at the Millsop Center in Weirton with his friend Paul Myers way back in 1963 went I was a young kid and he was about 25 them, he loved the game of handball playing mostly with one hand he did very well  for himself was always fun to talk too. I miss seeing all my friends as I move away in 1995 to Myrtle Beach. But Sam was a great guy and farther and husband May God Bless in Heaven. Your friend in Christ Harry Caldwell
