My dear friend and classmate Ruth Allan, who I was in school with at Wintersville, Ohio, 1943 to 1954, passed away a few days ago. Ruth came from a large family and was one of those rare angels on earth who was kind and considerate to everyone she met. When I was in grade school I was taken by her beautiful smile, her inner serenity and her sense of fun. She was active and very popular in our school, but always nice to me, always took time for a nice smile and greeting for me, and she graciously accepted my shy requests to dance in junior high. I kept my boyhood crush a secret from her for 40 years. Growing up, in 1954 my family left Wintersville and I went to a big city school in Pittsburgh. But my memory of Ruth was always a fine example to me of what a real girl should be, in my long search for my own soul mate. In later years I was not surprised to read on Facebook the many outpourings of fond memories from her children, grandchildren and many friends. I was not surprised to read that she was later honored as a princess at the WHS proms. And I wasnt surprised to read what her colleagues at the library where she worked told of her kindness and caring nature when she retired after many years of service. For me it was a shock to learn of her passing. A small, shining light in my memory of a girl named Ruth Allan long ago at Wintersville school has gone dim. Its amazing that a kind smile at age 13 from a lovely girl can last for so many years. - Bob ONeal, Tacoma WA

I was extremely saddened to learn of the passing of a dear, dear friend. This friendship began in elementary school, moved through high school and into adulthood. Ruth and I, along with various reunion committee members, planned all of the class of '56 reunions. With her easy-going, sweet personality, she was so easy to work with that we really looked forward to these gatherings. A wonderful person, an outstanding personality, a wonderful friend--may her memory be eternal!

Keke and Allan, I have so many fond memories of growing up on Williams Blvd! One of my favorite memories is being in your house when your mom was making her caramels, I remember they were each wrapped in wax paper... they were the best! She was always a kind and gentle person, and made me smile each time I ran into her. Im sorry I wont be able to come to the funeral home as I am dealing with a bad cold. Kek-I think of you often and hope youre doing well. May the memory of your beautiful mother be eternal .
