Ruth Imogene (Culp) Hellock was born July 23, 1924 to the late Floyd and Ethel (Boyd) Culp in Hammondsville, Ohio. A 1941 graduate of Bergholz High School, Imogene attended Tusculum College in Greeneville, Tennessee before enrolling in and graduating from the Ohio Valley Hospital School of Nursing in 1945. She worked as a registered nurse at Ohio Valley Hospital for over 30 years and retired as the Pediatric Head Nurse in 1988. On April 18, 1946 Ruth married John L. Hellock. The couple raised their three children and celebrated 67 years of marriage in their Wintersville home. Following her retirement, the couple enjoyed traveling around the United States from New York, to Las Vegas, to Hawaii, and many places in between. Also during retirement, Imogene enrolled in quilting classes at Jefferson Technical College; she joined the Ohio Valley Traditional Quilters club and developed a talent for piecing beautiful quilts. Over her lifetime she was a member of the National Honor Society, the WW II Cadet Nurse Corps, the Ohio Nurses Association, the American Nurses Association, the Mingo Junction Senior Citizens Center, and the Wintersville United Methodist Church. In 1989, Imogene was honored with a Jefferson Technical College Community Service Sector Award. Imogene passed away on July 16, 2015 after a brief illness, just one week shy of her 91st birthday. In addition to her parents, Imogene was preceded in death by her husband, John Hellock, and her siblings Donna Culp and Wilbur Culp. She is survived by sisters Mary Fisher of Steubenville and Lois Clark of Salineville; her children Douglas (Loretta) Hellock of Wintersville, OH, Dana (Darlene) Hellock of Wintersville, OH, and Diane (David) Kuntzman of Alliance, OH; six grandchildren Keith (Shannon) Hellock, Kevin Hellock, Corey (Marianne) Hellock, Shelley (Josh) Ewing, Lauren Kuntzman and Lindsay Kuntzman; and six great-grandchildren. Imogene and John were so impressive when they came to visit in Oklahoma so long ago. They were our contact point with dad's family. Well mostly Imogene was, John was not the talker. Mike and I so much enjoyed talking to her each Christmas. We would panic about time zones, afraid we might wake her. But she always was there, always so up beat, no matter her situation. A great lady, who we love and will miss.

So sorry to hear of Mrs Hellocks passing. She was my first boss ever as a nurse. My first job was with her on the Peds floor at OVH. She was such a classy lady. Very professional, kind and loving. She was a great nurse and a wonderful example for me as a new nurse and others that she came in contact with. She touched many lives of children and also myself. My condolences.
