Obituary For Rose Magnone

Rose Magnone passed away peacefully on June 25, 2025 surrounded by loved ones. She was 93 years old—a woman whose life was defined by love, loyalty, and fierce strength.

Rose was born on January 7, 1932, to her parents Antonio and Emilia Conforti in the small village of Palombelli in Belmonte, Province of Cosenza, Calabria, Italy. At just 16, she boarded the ship Saturnia and arrived in the United States in 1948, beginning a new chapter marked by hard work and perseverance.

Not long after settling in, Rose found work at Bernabei Grocery before becoming a skilled seamstress at The Hub of Steubenville. Rose married the love of her life, Natale Magnone, on July 3, 1954. They were childhood sweethearts, who found their way back to each other after years apart—a love story rooted in destiny, devotion and love letters sent for years over continents. She pressed pause on her professional life to raise her children, returning to her craft later on with roles at Carlisle’s and J.C. Penney, and independent work for many in the community. Rose wasn’t just good with a needle and thread—she was a master seamstress, and people from near and far came to her for her meticulous craftsmanship.

When grandchildren came along, Rose once again stepped away from public work to devote herself fully to family. She helped raise her grandchildren with the same tireless care and fierce love she had given her own children. She remained active in the community, continuing her seamstress work well into her later years.

Rose was also known far and wide for her cooking. Her meals were legendary—family gatherings were anchored by her pasta, breads, and baked goods. Her kitchen was always open, her table always full. She showed her love in flour, sugar, and sauce—baking your favorite cookies, cooking your favorite dish, always making sure you left her home full and smiling.

She was strong in her opinions, but just as strong in her love. You always knew where Rose stood, and you always knew she had your back. She loved with her whole heart and never held back.

Rose also had an eye for style. She always got her hair done and dressed like a million bucks—classic, sharp, and confident. Looking good was part of who she was, and she wore it with pride.

She is survived by her husband Natale, her son, William, and his wife, Robin; her daughter, Lisa D'Amico; her grandchildren, Antonio and his wife Leana, Gina, and Natalie; and her sister, Emma Deptula. She was preceded in death by her parents, Antonio and Emilia, son-in-law Robert D’Amico and her sister, Mary Suriano.

Rose was the heart of her family and the soul of her home. She will be remembered not just for what she did, but for how she made people feel—loved, supported, and never alone. Her Christmas cookies were legendary and are one of the many things Rose did to show her love that will forever be missed

Family and friends may call at Holy Family Catholic Church, Steubenville, on Saturday, July 5, 2025 from 10 a.m. until the time of funeral liturgy with mass at 11 a.m. with Rev. Drake McCallister officiating. Entombment at Mt. Calvary Cemetery.

She leaves behind a legacy of love, resilience, and generosity—and she will be missed by all who had the privilege to know her and eat at her table.

Please consider a memorial donation in Rose's honor to the Holy Family Catholic Church, 2655 Alexander Street, Steubenville, Ohio 43952, St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or Shriners Hospitals for Children, 2900 N. Rocky Point Drive, Tampa, FL 33607.

Zio Natale, Billy, Robin, Lisa and Zizi Emma, I'm so sorry to hear of Zizi Rose's passing. She indeed was a wonderful person who touched the lives of everyone around her. Yes, her cooking and seamstress skills were unmatched just like her unconditional love. She altered my wedding gown which was many moons ago. I will remember her fondly as the family Peace Maker. She always tried to bring light to even the worst situations and although she might not have approved of the choices some people made, she supported her loved ones. She was exceptionally good to me, Dino Jr. & Jessica, D'Angelo, Amber & Shelby, and my grandchildren Dominic, Sydnee, Niko and Kairana. As she travels onto her next journey and you mourn Zizi's Rose's passing, celebrate her beautiful life and she will live on in your hearts forever. Please accept my prayers and heartfelt condolences. Rest in Heaven Zizi Rose. Dawn

Lisa- I always remember your mom the day of your wedding and the week before. She wanted me to mangia - and made sure to fill my belly with the best homemade zucchini strips. So full I had to pass out on the sofa because I could not move. I remember doing her nails the morning of your wedding and the tears in her eyes when she saw you get ready. Her eulogy was the epitome of Ms Rose- she was always aware of what was going on everywhere. My love to you and all of your family. Peace and love- light is all around your family.
