Robert R. “Cookie” Cook, 84, of Steubenville, Ohio died Monday, November 15, 2010 at Valley Hospice Care Center North. He was born February 4, 1926 in Canton, Ohio a son of the late Roger W. and Harriet L. Gotshal Cook. Cookie was a member of First Westminster Presbyterian Church where he served as a deacon and usher. He was a 50 year member of Pilgrim Lodge # 691; a 25 year member of A.A.S.R. Valley of Steubenville Scottish Rite and York Rite Bodies of Steubenville. He was a little league coach and a Boy Scout leader. Cookie served in the Navy during WW II and the Korean War on PT boats and destroyers in the South Pacific. He was the assistant general foreman at Browns Island and retired from Weirton Steel after 36 years of service in the coke plant. Surviving are his wife Ruth Slater Cook whom he married on September 17, 1950; son Robert M. (Jill) Cook of Steubenville, OH; daughter Deborah (David) Severson of Manassas, VA; four grandchildren Cara M. Cook, Robert R. Cook, Garrett S. Severson and Rachel E. Severson and his faithful companion Molly. Friends may call at Shorac Funeral Home, 611 North Fourth St., (Formerly McClave Funeral Home) on Tuesday 6 – 8 p.m. and Wednesday 2 – 4 & 6 – 8 p.m. Friends may also call at First Westminster Presbyterian Church on Thursday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service at 10 a.m. with Rev. Jason Elliott and Rev. Robert Shearer officiating. Burial at Union Cemetery where Ohio Valley Veterans Memorial Squad will perform military honors. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be directed to Valley Hospice, 10686 State Route 150, Rayland, OH 43943. Masonic service Wednesday 7 p.m.
