Robert Leroy Porter, 87, of Wintersville, Ohio passed from this life on Friday, December 31, 2010 at his home. He was born June 9, 1923 in Mingo Junction, Ohio a son of the late Roy E. & Anna Neiman Porter. He was preceded in death by his daughter Roanne Whanger; brothers William Porter & Floyd Porter; and sister Hazel Ritchie. He graduated from Mingo High School and Steubenville Business College. He retired from Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel as a maintenance repairman in 1982. Robert served his country by enlisting in the Navy during WWII, serving in the Pacific Area for 4.5 years as a First Class Petty Officer. He was a charter member of Wintersville Church of Christ where he served as an Elder, Deacon, and Trustee. He was a Bible School teacher and superintendent for many years. Robert was a member of Knights of Pythias Lodge #414 and performed with the Mingo Drum & Bugle Corp. He was a member of American Post #557 and enjoyed his grandsons’ baseball games, wrestling matches and band performances.Robert is survived by his wife of 62 years, Marjorie Bauman Porter; daughter Janis (Thom) Snyder of Hillsboro, OH; four grandsons Oney & Paul Snyder and Ryan & Russell Whanger; sister Dorothy Aikey of Lewisville, TX; brother Ralph Porter of Canton, OH; sixteen loving nieces and nephews. Friends and Family will gather for visitation on Monday from 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. at Dunlope-Shorac Funeral Home, 215 Fernwood Road, Wintersville where services will be held at at 10:30 a.m. Tuesday with Pastor Imre Gulyas officiating. Entombment at Fort Steuben.Memorials may be made to Wintersville Church of Christ -or- Valley Hospice, Inc.
