Robert E. Smith, age 84, of Wintersville, Ohio died Thursday, February 6, 2014 at Trinity Medical Center West. He was born August 27, 1929 in Steubenville, Ohio, the son of the late George M. and Ethel Mae Daily Smith, Jr. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a sister Marlene J. Beekman.Robert retired as a general foreman of the utilities steam department from the former Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel Co., Steubenville-Mingo Plant. He attended Starkdale Presbyterian Church and held membership in Pilgrim Masonic Lodge #691, where he would have received his 50 year pin this September and was a 1947 graduate of Steubenville High School.He is survived by his wife Virginia Bougher Smith whom he married on May 2, 1950 and their children Debbrah (Bob) Zenz of Hiram, OH, Barbara (Jack) Zenz of Willoughby, OH, and Lee Ann (Don) VanCuren of Portage, IN; eight grandchildren Molly (Marcus) Smith, Emily (Michael) DeCaro, Katie, Sarah and Gretchen Zenz, Jack (Nadia) Zenz, Josh (Litany) Zenz and Scott Zenz and five great grandchildren Savannah and Zac Smith, Alissa and Gianna DeCaro and Arianna Zenz; and his close first cousins Jack and Dave Daily.Friends may call at the Dunlope-Shorac Funeral Home, 215 Fernwood Road, Wintersville on Sunday from 1 – 4 p.m., where funeral service will be held on Monday 10 a.m., with Rev. Paul Danielson officiating. Entombment at Fort Steuben. Memorials may be directed to the Martha Manor, 408 N. 5th Street, Steubenville, OH 43952.
