Robert E. “Bob” McCartney, age 88, of Bloomingdale, Ohio, died Sunday, November 3, 2013 at Trinity West.  He was born in Steubenville, Ohio on July 16, 1925 the son of the late Thomas Edward and Irene Bumgard McCartney.  He was also preceded in death by two brothers Richard and Thomas McCartney.Bob retired from Titanium Metals and served during WWII with the US Navy as a submariner.  He enjoyed traveling the country in his mobile home and vacationing in Yuma, Arizona during the winter months.He is survived by his lifelong companion Elma G. Schoppe of Bloomingdale and her children Fred W. (Susan) Schoppe of Mingo Junction, OH and Carole Sue Jester of Wintersville, OH; a sister Eleanor (Thomas) Boychan of Steubenville, OH. Bob’s request was to have his body be donated to further medical research to the College of Osteopathic Medicine Ohio University.  A memorial service will be held at Mt. Calvary Cemetery to be announced at a later date.  Memorial contributions may be directed to Charity Hospice.
