Robert Daniel “Burns” Carter, 63, of Steubenville, passed away Monday, July 29, 2019 at Valley Hospice. He was born April 8, 1956 in Steubenville a son of the late Harold “Burns” & Dean “Dunnie” Rakich Carter. He was a graduate of Steubenville Big Red and attended The Ohio State University. Dan was born and raised in Steubenville, spent his last months “at home” and lived around the world. His career in entertainment, resort development and vacation ownership took him to Las Vegas, St. Maarten, Virginia, New Orleans, locations throughout Florida and Lake Tahoe. Dan was “larger than life” in stature and personality, always bringing laughter and joy into the room. He was generous and kind and always willing to help anyone in need. Dan was the consummate story teller, all of them based upon his many acquaintances, travels and adventures. He enjoyed his cigars and appreciated a good libation. His humor, his laughter, his smile and his huge heart will be missed by many loved ones throughout the world.
In addition to his parents, Dan was preceded in death by his brother Raymond “Pumpkin” Carter; uncle Duke Rakich; aunt Celia “Mimi” and uncle George Sarap.
He is survived by his sons Dean (Sarah) Carter and Steven Carter, all of Carson City, NV, Joel (Tatiana) Carter and Daniel (Laura) Carter, all of Texas; long-time companion and fiancée Kari Davis and her children Nicole and Logan, all of St. Louis, MO; aunt Florence Rakich; niece Ashley Carter; sister-in-law Cindi Overholt Carter; several very special cousins and their children who were all very close to Dan, and many valued lifelong friends who were family to Dan.
A Celebration of Dan’s Life and Legacy will be held at The Spot Bar, 217 S. Fourth St. in Steubenville for family and friends on Friday, August 2, 2019 from 5-7 p.m.

It was at our 40th class reunion I saw Danny for the first time since graduation. Never did I imagine it would be the last time I would see him. His smile was infectious and could light up the room. Rest well, my friend.

A very nice person. Met him in Las Vegas in the late 70s with my friend and nursing classmate Debbie Boyd, who went to Big Red with Danny

I am so sorry for your loss! Danny was my best friend in every sense of the word when I was growing up! We met in elementary school. He was taller than our kindergarten teacher at McKinley Elementary! He always made me laugh, and was always there during sad and lonely times! His personality was absolutely captivating and I always came away feeling better about life just hanging out with him! My life was enriched by Danny, but I know for a certainty that I will see him again. Steve Mikita

Dan was one of the coolest Bosses to work for!! He would tell the funniest jokes and always have that straight forward, as blunt as he can be, tell it how it is, kind of attitude. It was always a good day at work when Dan was around. I'lll hold all his jokes and advice close to my heart. Was just going to call him on that Thursday before his passing to say hi. 😭 Love you! ❤ Going to miss you Big Dan!
