Roanne Lee Whanger of Wintersville, Ohio died on January 26, 2005 at Trinity West after a courageous battle with amyloidosis. She was born on October 1, 1959, the beloved daughter of Robert L. and Marjorie Bauman Porter of Wintersville. Roanne was a graduate of Wintersville High School and Ohio State University School of Nursing. She was hired as a staff nurse in the Surgical Intensive Care Unit of St. John Medical Center on August 11, 1980. She was recognized for her excellence in clinical nursing practice and attention to detail by being promoted to the Assistant Head Nurse position on January 25, 1982. In 1985, Roanne left St. John’s and returned in 1987 as a staff nurse on a monitored floor. She was again promoted in 1987 to her former position. Continuing to be committed to her patients, St. John Medical Center and nursing practice, Roanne was promoted to Head Nurse of Surgical Intensive Care. In 1995, she was given additional management responsibility for the Post Surgical Unit. Roanne was instrumental in the development of nursing services at Trinity Health System. In addition to her responsibilities for the Surgical Intensive Care Unit and Post Surgical Units, she opened a Post Surgical Telemetry Unit and an additional Intensive Care Unit. In 1998, Roanne assumed responsibility for Nursing Education at Trinty. She will be most remembered by her colleagues for her passion for nursing and attention to detail. Roanne was a member of Wintersville Church of Christ and the Womens Fellowship. She was active in Junior Church activities and was a loyal fan of the Wintersville Youth Baseball leagues. Surviving to mourn her loss are her husband Robert L. Whanger whom she married February 17, 1989; two sons Ryan Whanger and Russell Whanger of the residence; her parents; sister Janis Porter Snyder and her husband Thom Snyder of Hillsboro, Ohio; sister-in law and brother-in-law Brenda and Jeff Edwards; mother and father-in-law Joann and Robert Whanger; two nephews Oney and Paul Snyder and nieces Evelyn and Lydia Edwards. Family and friends may call at Dunlope-Shorac Funeral Home, 215 Fernwood Road, Wintersville on Friday 2-4 & 7-9 p.m. On Saturday, friends may call at Wintersville Church of Christ from 10 a.m. until time of services at 11 a.m. with Minister Steve Alexander officiating.
