Obituary For Richard J. "Rick" Custer

Richard J. “Rick” Custer, Sr., 75, of Bloomingdale, Ohio passed away on Saturday, July 15, 2023 at Trinity West ER. He was born on September 24, 1947 in Wheeling, WV a son the late Charles & Mary Emmerth Custer, Jr.

Rick was a route driver for McKee Bakery; Indian Creek School District bus driver; and transport driver for Gables Nursing Home. He was a member of St. Stephen Episcopal Church. Preceding Rick in death were his wife Judith A. Ambercrombie Custer in 2007 and brother Butch Custer.

Rick is survived by his wife Shirley Randolph Thorn; children Kim (Chet) Richmond, Crystal (Jeff) Coffield & Richard J. (Heather) Custer, Jr.; bonus children Vicki (Chris) Kerr, Pamela Morley, Colleen (Paul) Hupp, Paul Maguire & Christy (Danny) Drakulich; 33 grandchildren; 23 great grandchildren; and siblings Peggy Mowles, Ruth Reitter, Charles Custer & Charly Custer.

Friends may call at Dunlope-Shorac Funeral Home, 215 Fernwood Road, Wintersville, Ohio on Friday 3-8 p.m.

    To All of Ricks Family, so sorry for your loss. He will be missed by all at Gables, he was super with our residents. Taking to Appointments as well As wheeling to see the lights, and many other things , During covid he was a great help to us , I am thankful that I got to know him , and remained friends , after his retirement, God bless you my friend!

    My deepest sympathies to all. My buddy Rico had a great sense of humor and a great big heart. I truly enjoyed his stories and his laughter.. and hearing "hey kiddo" on the other end of the line always brightened my day. He was one of kind and he will be missed by all who knew him.

    I was so sorry to see this . Rick was a great guy who was a master of good conversation. Rick worked for me after he left Little Debbie and did a great job . God bless your whole family and RIP Rick!

    I was the maid of honor for Judy and Rick. I have such fond memories of them, that time of our lives, and dear Colleen,Paul and Christy. I wish comfort to Shirley and Ricks children and grandchildren.
