Raymond F. DeFranco 77 of Steubenville died Wednesday, March 10, 2004 at Trinity West. He was born in Mingo Junction, Ohio on January 19, 1927 a son of the late Nicholas J. and Edith Ellen Bickerstaff Collins. Having served in the Navy during WWII, he was a member of American Legion Argonne Post 33, Steubenville and also the Hopedale Post; V.F.W. and Moose Lodge both in Steubenville. He was the retired owner of Smith & DeFranco Cement Contractors and DeFranco & Sons Tree Trimming Co. Raymond was preceded in death by a son James D. DeFranco and a brother Joseph DeFranco. Surviving are his daughter Ellen “Darlene” Brady of Steubenville; son Raymond F. DeFranco of Raleigh, NC; brother James (Joyce) Collins of Bloomingdale; six grandchildren and three great-grandchildren. Friends may call at Dunlope-Shorac Funeral Home, Wintersville, on Friday 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Graveside services 10 a.m. Saturday at Oakland Cemetery, Mingo Junction, Ohio. Argonne Post 33 will conduct services at cemetery.
