Obituary For Ralph M. Rea M.D.

Ralph M. Rea, M.D. of Steubenville, Ohio died Monday, January 27, 2014, at the home of his son in Colorado. He was born in Isola del Liri, Italy a son of the late Dr. Francesco & Annunziata Migliori Rea. He served the Ohio Valley community for over 45 years as a family doctor. Originally, Dr. Rea moved to New York from his hometown and worked there before relocating to Ohio. He held various positions at the former St. John Hospital including Chief of Staff over the years. He was a member of Triumph of the Cross Catholic Church (Holy Rosary), Knights of Columbus and various medical associations. Dr. Rea never forgot his mother country and supported the Italian citizens during various tragic events affecting that country and was bestowed the title Cavaliere Della Republica Italiana. Preceding Dr. Rea in death were his parents and two brothers, William Rea & Dr. Gino Rea. Dr. Rea is survived by his wife Palma Auriti Rea; son Dr. Franco Rea of Denver; daughters Marina Rea of Pasadena, CA & Pia Camacho of Orlando, FL; granddaughter Nicole Camacho of Orlando; sister-in-law Maria Marsella Rea, niece Paola Bergamaschi and nephew Dr. Gianluigi Bergamaschi all of Rome, Italy; as well as cousins in Chicago, IL and Pembroke Pines, FL.Visitation Friday 6 - 7:30 p.m.Friends are invited to attend a funeral liturgy with mass at 10 a.m. Saturday at Holy Rosary Catholic Church. Entombment at Mt. Calvary Cemetery.In lieu of flowers memorials may be directed to the Alzheimers Association or American Diabetes Association.

    Dr. Rea was our family physician for many years. My mother, father, brother and I all liked him. He was a good doctor and even after he closed his practice, when he would see my father out somewhere he would always stop and talk to him. You're in my thoughts and prayers.

    I was named after Dr. Rea and would visit him whenever I was in Steubenville. He was such a lovely human being. He always greeted me like a long lost friend, even though we only met a few times. God bless you, Dr. Rea. You are truly loved by myself and my mother, Joanne Yatsko Cucarese. You and your family are in our prayers.

    To the family of Dr. Rea, I'm so sorry to hear of the passing of Dr. Rea. He was our family physician for many years. I can remember him from when I was a small child and into my college days. He was always so kind and caring to his patients. He was there to support my mother after my father's sudden passing. He will surely be missed. Your family is in my prayers. Good bless.     Dr. Rea was my doctor when I was little. He was very kind to me but I always remember his desk drawer that you could pick out a small toy or piece of candy. I also remember Gloria who was his receptionist/nurse. He was an exceptional practitioner and my deepest sympathy to his family.
