Ripley, MS - Phoebe Mohundro Brown, 96 passed away Sunday, March 30, 2014 at Trinity Medical Center West in Steubenville, Ohio. She was born March 26, 1918 to the late Fount and Olivia Rowland Mohundro. Phoebe was a citizen of Tippah County throughout most of her adult life and was an active participant in and contributor to the life of the whole area. She taught high school English and Spanish for a number of years at South Tippah High School and then Pine Grove . She loved her students and leaves a great legacy of all those students who loved her. She was a member Junior Civic League, Afternoon Bridge Club, Hospital Auxiliary and Retired Teachers Association. Above all, Phoebe was a faithful member of the Ripley Church of Christ. Services will be at 11:00 am Friday, April 4, 2014 at Ripley Funeral Home with Minister Raymond Hagood and Dr. Patrick Chapman officiating. Burial will be in Tiplersville Cemetery. She is survived one daughter, Lucy Brown Hagood (Raymond) of Steubenville, Ohio; one son, Dr.. James R. Brown (Helen) of Ripley; three grandchildren, Taylor Hagood, Libby Hagood Pence (Jack), and Lauren Brown McElwain (Lucas); and two great-grandchildren, Ava and Clark McElwain; and a world of people who knew her throughout her life and loved her. Pallbearers will be Bob Medlin, David Hudson, Mike Griffin, Ricky Griffin, James Wilburn and Bruce Wallis. Honorary Pallbearers will be Dr. Lucas McElwain, Dr. Taylor Hagood and Jack Pence. She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of forty-two years, Pete Brown; and two brothers, James Howell "Buck" Mohundro and Thomas Miller Mohundro. Visitation will be from 7:00 pm until 9:00 pm Thursday, April 3, 2014 at Ripley Funeral Home.
