Obituary For Peter Pero Drzayich

Peter “Pero” Drzayich, 90, of Steubenville, Ohio died Saturday, October 14, 2006 at Trinity West. He was born September 4, 1916 in Mingo Junction, Ohio, a son of the late Nikola Drzayich and the late Ilinka Jakundich Drzayich Ziza. He retired in 1979 from the blast furnace mechanical at Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel Corp. and was a member of Holy Resurrection Serbian Eastern Orthodox Church. A decorated Army veteran of WWII, Pete proudly served in the European Theatre 35th Infantry Division, receiving the Purple Heart, four Battle Stars and the Bronze Star. He was a member of the Mingo Junction American Legion. Preceding him in death were his wife Bertha “Barb” Dojonovic Drzayich; three brothers John & Emil Drzayich and Eli Ziza; three sisters Danica Karas, Anne Bellopatrick & Mildred Zatezalo; and stepfather Novak Ziza. An avid woodworker and gardner, Pero loved nothing more than his wife, children, grand and great grandchildren and family. Surviving are two daughters Joann (Richard) Jenikovsky and Beverly (Michael) Bise of Steubenville; brother Nick (Virginia) Ziza of Columbus, Ohio; four grandchildren Richard (Eadie) Jenikovsky, Christina (John) Lisciandro, Michael (Meredith) Bise & Jason (Megan) Bise; four great grandsons Brock Jenikovsky, Brandon & Justin Lisciandro & Colin Bise; many nieces and nephews. Friends may call at Dunlope-Shorac Funeral Home in Wintersville on Monday 4-8 p.m. and on Tuesday from 10 a.m. until time of services at 11 a.m. at Holy Resurrection Church with Rev. Rade Merick officiating. Burial at Union Cemetery. Memorials may be directed to the Serbian Church or charity of the donor’s choice. Ohio Valley Veterans Memorial Squad will conduct graveside services.
