Patricia Ruth (Iona Hilliard) Howell, 92 of Wintersville, Ohio went to be with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ on Saturday, April 22, 2023, at Sienna Skilled Nursing & Rehabilitation in Wintersville, OH. Patricia was born in Steubenville, OH on May 23, 1930, the middle daughter of the late Joseph and Blanche Hilliard. Pat graduated from Steubenville High School and attended Asbury College for 2 years. Over the years, she worked at Bantam Ridge Elementary as their first librarian, Wintersville High School for 22 years as secretary, and the Chinn Park Public Library in Woodbridge, VA. She was recently a member of Greenwich Presbyterian Church in Nokesville, VA after many years of service at Finley Church in Steubenville, OH. Patricia is preceded in death by her husband of 32 years, Glenn O’dale Howell Sr. in 1984.
Pat is survived by her son Glenn O’dale Howell Jr. (Virginia); son Robert Patrick Howell (Rhonda); daughter Penney Sue Merritt (Todd); granddaughters Cassandra Irizarry (Dan), Katrina White (Nathan), Glenda Osterberg (Matt), and Sydney Merritt; grandson Christopher Merritt (Katy); all her great-grandchildren: Daniel Irizarry, Mackenzie Callahan, Graham Osterberg, Finley Osterberg, Lila White, Fletcher Osterberg, Lawson White, Hattie Osterberg, and Raeghan Merritt; as well as her extended family and friends.
Patricia’s life gave us a glimpse of God’s unconditional Love. Perhaps her greatest gift was in giving that love to others. Her keen mind and kind, gentle spirit will be dearly missed by all those she has loved over the years.
“And the God of all grace, who called you to his eternal glory in Christ, after you have suffered a little while, will himself restore you and make you strong, firm and steadfast.”

Pat was such a kind person, so nice to me when I first started working at the public library with her. She had a wonderful sense of humor too. I have often thought of her over the years with fondness.
