Oscar “Pepper” Pitts, 70, of Adena, Ohio passed away Friday, August 12, 2005 at his home after a courageous battle with cancer. He was born in Jeffersonville, Kentucky on February 10, 1935, a son of the late Mexico and Della Flanery Pitts. Pepper was a retired truck driver and heavy equipment operator for Valley Mining in Dennison, Ohio. A Christian by faith, Pepper was preceded in death by his first wife Betty; four brothers Tony, John, Virgil and Ordie Pitts; and two sisters Luella Cyphert and Sylvia Allen. Pepper is survived by his wife Beverly J. Martz Pitts; ten children Vickie (William) Nelson, Sue (Douglas) Eckler, Harry (Julie) Pitts and Brenda (Gregory) Cress all of Hanoverton, Ohio, Virgil Pitts of Steubenville, Cindy (Harvey) Mountz of Kensington, Ohio Annie (Gregory) Butler of East Rochester, Ohio; Alice Hartley of Steubenville, Bonnie Anz of Lakeland, FL and Samuel Monroe of Sarasota, FL; 26 grandchildren; 16 great grandchildren; one brother Hilliard Pitts of Jeffersonville, KY; and two sisters Dora Mae Owsley of LaGrange, IN and Ada Martin Rudd of Canton, Ohio. Friends may call at Dunlope-Shorac Funeral Home, 215 Fernwood Road, Wintersville, Ohio on Saturday 6-8 p.m. and Sunday 2-4 & 6-8 p.m.; where services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday with Rev. Gordon Warner officiating. Burial at Holly Memorial Gardens. The family would like to thank Valley Hospice for their gracious care and Julie Hennis for being with them.
