Obituary For Nevenka Nancy Zelich

Nevenka Nancy Zelich passed away February 12, 2019. She was born on January 8, 1925 in Srb, Yugoslavia to the late Milosh and Sophie Torbica. She was preceded in death by her husband of 65 years, Slobodan, and two sons, Milan and George, as well as all of her five siblings.

She leaves behind her son Paul of Steubenville, a daughter Sonja (Clyde) DiAngelo, also of Steubenville, as well as granddaughter Danielle (Trevor) Kalinowski and grandson Michael DiAngelo, plus grandsons Ty and Vinny Kalinowski.

Nevenka came to the United States with her husband Slobodan in 1949, after having left war torn Yugoslavia, coming to a strange country with nothing but hopes and dreams. Together they realized their dreams while raising a family and having all their children educated in college. She was a devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother, embracing her family with tremendous love and affection.

As a homemaker she could cook, sew, landscape, do repairs around the house – just about anything. As a gracious hostess, she made meticulous preparations for welcomed guests, providing a warm, inviting setting in which everyone was well fed with plenty of food and drink.

She will be greatly missed by all those whose lives she touched.

Friends may call at the Holy Resurrection Serbian Eastern Orthodox Church, 528 N. Fourth St., Steubenville, Ohio, on Thursday 3-7 p.m. and on Friday from noon until services at 1 p.m. with Very Rev. Rade Merick officiating. Burial at Serbian Cemetery, Steubenville, Ohio. Pomen services 6:45 Thursday

Memorials may be directed to the Petar Krstisch Choir or the church.

Dear Sonja and family,I was so sad to learn of your mom's passing. Although I hadn't seen her for a number of years, I always remember her kindness when we greeted one and other. I remember my mom telling me when my dad died (Dr. Fred Kosanovic) that your mom came to the house to pay her respects and offered to make the kolivo for my dad's funeral.  My mom was  grateful to your mom for her offering of  comfort and kindness to my mom at a most difficult time.  Memory Eternal.

Lisa, thank you for your tribute. My mother thought highly of your father. My father would drive my mother as well as my sister and I to your father's office on Main Street in Weirton in early 1958 when my mother was pregnant with my late brother George.Paul Zelich
