Obituary For Nellie A. Madison

Nellie Alexander Strachan Coghill Madison 94 of Steubenville, Ohio died Wednesday, September 17, 2003 at her residence. She was born February 18, 1909 in Luscar Gardens by Dunfermline, Scotland, but was raised in Edinburgh, Scotland, before coming here in April of 1923. She was the daughter of David and Mary Ann Strachan Coghill. Her husband William “Bill” Madison preceded her in death on July 23, 1973. She leaves a son, David W. Madison and dear daughter-in-law, Kathleen A. Madison of Steubenville. A grandson, David W. Madison Jr. and his wife Tammy of Dayton and a granddaughter, Cheryl Ann Madison of Gahanna, OH also two great grandsons, Michael of Dayton, Ohio and Brandon of Gahana, OH and a nephew, Douglas Madison of Steubenville and a foster nephew, Ronald “Charley” Bedillion of Burgettstown, PA. Also her dear other family members, Donald and Gretta Billham of Weirton and Florida. Jack and Alice Billham and Dessie Penner of Steubenville. Richard Cowles of Canton, OH and his daughter, Tammy, Goddaughter to Nellie. She was a member of First Westminster Presbyterian Church. She was past leader of the Ellen H. Brown Bible Class, past President of the Women’s Association; past leader of Naomi Circle and Westminster Sewing Twig and co-chairman of the Kitchen Committee. She was a past Chief Daughter of Scotch Thistle Lodge #119 of the Daughters of Scotia and was a member of Lady Douglas Lodge of Homestead, PA. She was an active den mother for Cub Scouts and active in Harding School P.T.A. Choir mother for Steubenville High School Acappella Choir from 1955-1956. She was a past leader of the Salvation Army Home League and was presently serving her second two year term for the leader of the Salvation Army Ladies Auxiliary and on the Board of Martha Manor for many years. She was also a buyer for Hosiery and Lingerie in the Hub on the first floor, under Anathan Brothers and L. S. Good. A volunteer at Trinity East and R.S.V.P. since 1974 and was a member of Oak Twig and past president. Friends may call at the Dunlope-Shorac Funeral Home, Wintersville, OH on Sunday 2-4 & 7-9 and on Monday from 9:30 till the time of funeral service at 10 a.m. at First Westminster Presbyterian Church, Steubenville. Rev. Susan Haseltine to officiate. Burial at Fort Steuben Burial Estates, Wintersville. Memorials may be sent to First Westminster Presbyterian Church or Martha Manor Home or Salvation Army Ladies Auxiliary. Daughters of Scotia services 8 p.m. Sunday.
