"The Vein Cousins" are spread all over the country now (with one even farther) but through email, phone and social media we are able to keep in touch. We are now in our 50s and even 60s (me) but this week we are children again, mourning the loss of our dear Aunt Nancy. As we talk, I realize although we have individual memories, we all share this common experience: rather than judge or criticize us, she let us be whomever we individually were. So as we grew, she got to know us in that way - encouraging us on our path, occasionally gently suggesting a different course... but never, ever judging. I know how much I loved her, but I don't think I realized the depth of her importance to me throughout my life, or how much of her - humor, candor, no BS manner, kindness - so deeply contributed to the person I am today. I love you forever, Aunt Nance. Thank you, thank you, thank you.

I am saddened i will not be able to attend my best friend and sister-in-law's funeral. I pray that my brother and her children will understand and know that she shall always be with me. She was not a sister- in- law- she was a sister. all my memories of you, my brother Pete, and all the fun we had dancing on Friday nights - and our children playing together and growing up together shall ever be cherished and dear to my heart- I love you Nancy Vein.
