Michael J. “Mel” Melko 48 of Steubenville, Ohio died Sunday, August 29, 2004 as a result of accidental drowning. He was born in Steubenville on January 16, 1956. He was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church and Weirton Boat Club. Michael was a former millwright in the 80 inch mill at Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel. He was preceded in death by his brother James M. A. Melko on April 21, 2004. Michael is survived by his parents Michael A. and Kathleen Margaret Melko of Steubenville; two sisters Barbara Bradley of Wintersville and Kathleen (David) Sampson of Milpitas, CA; companion Joan Stewart of St. Clairsville; three nephews James (Edith) Melko, Jr. of Bloomingdale, Ohio, Richard (Susan) Bradley of Toronto, Ohio and Christopher Bradley of Wintersville; two nieces Annie (Bob) Wright of Wintersville and Michelle (Ralph) Stephens of Mingo Junction; several great nieces and nephews; and his companion’s children Larry Crabtree of Portland, Oregon and Charlene Crabtree and Janeen “Niki” Crabtree both of Warwood, WV. Friends may call at Dunlope-Shorac Funeral Home, Wintersville, Ohio on Friday 2-4 and 6-9 p.m. where services will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday with Rev. Timothy McGuire officiating. Burial at Mount Calvary Cemetery. Vigil service 8:45 p.m. Friday.
