Michael A. Melko, 89, of Steubenville, Ohio died Friday, August 18, 2006 at Trinity West. He was born September 29, 1916 in Steubenville a son of the late Frank and Carolyn B. Riapos Melko. He was a retired craneman from Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel and served in the Army during WWII. Mike was a member of Holy Rosary Catholic Church; Mingo Sportsmans Club; and a former member of CCC and Steubenville Elks. Preceding Mike in death were his sons James M. Melko and Michael J. Melko; sister Mary Boychan; and brothers John, Frank & Andrew Melko. Surviving are his wife Kathleen M. Melko; daughters Barbara Bradley of Wintersville and Kathy (David) Sampson of Baltimore; daughter-in-law Cathy Melko of Mingo Junction; five grandchildren Michelle Stephen, Richard (Susan) Bradley, Christopher (companion Sabrina Fields) Bradley, James (Edith) Melko & Antonette (Robert) Wright; 8 great grandchildren and sister Caroline Sabo of Cleveland. Friends may call at Dunlope-Shorac Funeral Home on Sunday 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. Funeral liturgy with mass 11:30 a.m. Monday at Holy Rosary with Rev. David Cornett officiating. Burial at Mt. Calvary Cemetery. Sportsman Lodge service 6 p.m. Sunday followed by a vigil at 7:30 p.m. Memorials may be directed to Holy Rosary Church. Ohio Valley Veterans Squad will conduct services at the cemetery chapel.
