Obituary For Max L. Owens

Max L. Owens, 83, of Wintersville died Wednesday, October 24, 2012 at Trinity West.  He was born in Bloomindale, OH on May 11, 1929 a son of the late Dorman and Leah (Rulong) Owens.  In addition to his parents, Max was preceded in death by brothers Merle and Jerry Owens; sister Margaret Jeanne Cornett; granddaughter Martha Dear; step great grandchild Elijah Lamp; great grandchildren Paisley and Brady Lamp..  He is survived by his wife of 53 years, Kathleen Stevens Owens; sister Patricia Garafalo; daughters Ilore (Keith) Wilson and Barbara Logan; beloved grandchildren Jeremy (Michelle) Wilson and Brittany (Jimmy) Lamp; five wonderful great grandchildren Isabella Wilson, Emma and Parker Lamp, Victoria and Terry Dear, Jr.  Max was a gifted welder and attended the Lincoln Electric Company Trade School in Cleveland to further his skills.  He was a member of the Plumbers and Pipefitters Local 490 since 1957, Unionport Lodge 333 F&AM since 1950, American Legion Post 557 since 1954 and Bloomingdale Presbyterian Church since 1961.  Max also served for 25 years on the board of Beaver Creek Presbyterian Church Camp.  During the Korean Conflict, Max served two years at Fort Knox, Kentucky with the 3rd Armored Division as company Administrator 1st sergeant for troop trainers.  Max was an avid auto racing fan and attended the Indy 500 numerous times.  Friends may call at Dunlope-Shorac Funeral Home, 215 Fernwood Rd., Wintersville, OH on Friday from 6-9p.m. Friends may also call on Saturday from 11a.m. until time of services at Noon with Rev. C. Robert Meyer officiating.  Burial will be private. Ohio Valley Veterans Memorial Squad will conduct military honors at the funeral home.   In lieu of flowers, please consider memorial contributions to: The Children’s Bereavement Fund, 108 Aliceland Drive, Wintersville, OH 43953.

    So very sorry to hear about Max's passing - I will always have a great memeory of his smile and, of course, he always gave me such a hard time whenever I was home and attended Church. May God be with all during this very sad time. Max and Kathleen were very good friends to my sister, Janet Graham Thomas.
