Lifelong Steubenville resident Mary Jane (Uhlich) Angel passed away peacefully on October 18, 2014 after 92 years of life. She was preceded in death by her husband James E. Angel, mother Marie (Weister) Uhlich and father George Henry Uhlich. A 1940 graduate of Wells High School, Mary Jane went on to attend Ohio Valley School of Nursing from 1940-1943 and then earned a bachelor's degree cum laude in 1950 and a master's degree letter of nursing in 1957, both from the University of Pittsburgh. She worked as a registered nurse at Ohio Valley Hospital in nursing education until her resignation in 1966. Mary Jane then changed careers, but continued educating others, and became a teacher for Edison Local School district until 1986 where she retired with 19 years of service. Mary Jane enjoyed reading, sewing, and rummage sales. She was an avid church attendee at First Church of the Nazarene Steubenville. Mary Jane was also a member of the University of Pittsburgh Alumni, Jefferson County Historical Society, LaBelle Chapter Eastern Star #414, and Jefferson County Retired Teachers Association. Mary Jane is survived by her sister, Dorothy (Uhlich) Bowers of Steubenville, niece Linda (John) McCullough of Wellsville, nephew John (Paula) Dennis of Steubenville, cousin Barbara (Bill) Morris of Steubenville, cousin Lois Richardson of Steubenville, and several nieces and nephews. Friends may call at the Dunlope-Shorac Funeral Home, 215 Fernwood Road, Wintersville on Thursday from 4 until the time of funeral services at 7 p.m. with Rev. Ron Miller officiating. Burial at Union Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the First Church of the Nazarene, 511 Woodlawn Rd., Steubenville, OH 43952.

Just found out about My dear friend Mary Jane Angel she was my neighbor on ridge ave and my mothers best friend gertrude Hanle she was very special to me and I loved her as a second mother She was a good roll model and as a chld encouraged me so much I loved Mary Jane and was so saddened when I heard about her passing. after my mom passed she kept in touch with me through letters and birthday cards and christmas. culdnt ask fora better friend and second mom. R.I.P. my dear friend I will miss you and always remember you and uour kindness to me and my mom
