Mary Agnes (Roberts) Yocum, 97, of Steubenville died Monday, February 2, 2015 at Lancia Villa Vista. She entered this life on May 5, 1917 in Mingo Junction, Ohio the daughter of the late Concetta (Cascioli) and Domenico Roberts of Mingo Junction, Ohio. Mary was employed by Ohio Valley Hospital in Steubenville as Head Nurse on the Men’s Surgical Floor and later as Student Health Nurse in the School of Nursing. She also worked for a period of time after graduation as a nurse at Cook County Hospital in Chicago. Mary was a 1932 graduate of St. Agnes School in Mingo Junction and a 1936 graduate of Mingo High School. Mary earned her degree as a Registered Nurse from the Martins Ferry Hospital School of Nursing in 1939. She was a member of Holy Family Catholic Church. Mary is the past president of the Steubenville AARP Chapter 1854, having held that position from 1990 to 2011. She was preceded in death by her husband Albert W. Yocum in 1989; five brothers Anthony Roberts, Nicholas Roberts, Michael Roberts, Michael A. Roberts and Frank Roberts; two sisters Lucille Brockway and Delina Gaulesky; brother-in-law Alexander Gaulesky; sisters-in-law Evelyn Roberts and Rose D. Romano Roberts; nephew Francis Roberts and nephew-in-law James Wojcik. She is survived by two nieces Eugenia P. Roberts of New Alexandria, who was her primary caregiver, and Jeanette L. Wojcik of St. Clairsville; four nephews Francis J. (Suzanne) Roberts of Port Orange, FL, John A. (Carol) Brockway of Colerain, OH, Joseph M. (Patricia) Roberts of Lexington, KY and Donald J. (Robin) Brockway of Steubenville; brother-in-law John Brockway of Steubenville; two great-nieces Lindsey Roberts of Port Orange, FL and Nicole C. Roberts of Lexington, KY; three great-nephews William (Amanda) Brockway of Mingo Junction, Michael J. Roberts of Lexington, KY and Donald James Brockway of Steubenville; great-great-niece Julianna Elaine Brockway of Mingo Junction and a great-great-nephew Anthony Joseph Michael of Port Orange, FL. Visitation will be held at Dunlope-Shorac Funeral Home, 215 Fernwood Road, Wintersville, OH on Friday from 3 – 7 p.m. Funeral liturgy with Mass will celebrated at Holy Family Catholic Church, 2608 Hollywood Blvd., Steubenville on Saturday at 10 a.m. with Msgr. Gerald Calovini as celebrant. Vigil service Friday 6:45 p.m. Burial will follow at Mt. Calvary Cemetery, Steubenville. The family expresses their deepest gratitude to the staff at Villa Vista for the exceptional care they provided and for their support and understanding. Jeanne, I am so sorry for your loss. I adored your Aunt Mary. She always made me smile when I was working at Lancia's she will be greatly missed. I shall miss seeing her at mass!
