Obituary For Martin F. "Marty" Lanaghan

Martin F. “Marty” Lanaghan, 68, of Bloomingdale, Ohio died Tuesday, February 19, 2008 at Trinity West. He was born April 18, 1939 in Steubenville a son of the late John F. and Mildred E. James Lanaghan. He was a retired B.O. F. foreman from Wheeling-Pittsburgh Steel Corp and member of St. Peters Catholic Church. An avid Pittsburgh Steelers fan, Marty was a 1957 graduate of Catholic Central High School and spent 20 years as a football coach for various Catholic schools in Jefferson County. Preceding Marty in death was his sister Pat Bledsoe.Surviving are his wife Shirley A. Hubbard Lanaghan whom he married January 9, 1960; daughters Terri (Chuck) Menzel of Wilson, NC, Kelly Wilson of Bloomingdale & Kathy Dagrava of Follansbee; son Martin David (Cristi) Lanaghan of Hebron, Ohio; ten grandchildren Joshua Menzel, Jeremy Menzel, Erin Menzel, Kacy Brake, Brandon Lanaghan, Justin Newburn, Brian Newburn, Corey Lanaghan, Shawn Lanaghan & Dallas Lanaghan; a soon to be expected great grandson; sister Kathryn (Jack) Rowe of Wilson, NC; and trusted and faithful companion: his dog Sam.Friends may call at Dunlope-Shorac Funeral Home in Wintersville on Thursday 6-8 p.m. and Friday 2-4 & 6-8 p.m. where a service will be held Saturday 9:30 a.m. with Msgr. George Yontz officiating. Burial at Mt. Calvary.  Vigil service Friday 7:30 p.m.

    Mrs. Lanaghan My deepest Sympathy to you and the family. I work with him for 31 years he was a great friend and Boss I ran laddle crane for him,and enjoy working with him,and also I'am the guy that ran the roll-off boxs for him on his clean outs.I enjoyed his company at the breakfast we had the frist of each month.I will miss him alot we had alot of laughs together.He will be sadly miss by all of us.     I am very sorry to hear of your loss. I worked with Marty for almost 40 years, and have been attending our monthly breakfast since our retirement. I know he will be greatly missed by all the guys there, Ed.

    My thoughts and prayers go out to Marty's entire family. Brandon just introduced me to his grandfather a week ago at the library. I was glad to finally meet him because I heard so many wonderful stories about him from Brandon. He sounded like a great guy and a wonderful grandfather and friend to Brandon.     Dearest Lanagan Family...My family lived on Logan Street and we all went to St. Peters and C.C.H.S.Marty was friends with my Brother Tom Rickey all there young years...Tom Died in 1999 from a heart attack and we miss him daily.I know Tom will look after Marty and they can help the Steelers when they need it.The chain maybe broken but God will mend it in Time.Mrs. Lanagan, I lost my Husband July 23rd and Prayer and our Holy Mother will help you as she has helped me...we were also married 47 years...Time will pass and he will be with you just as Frank will be with me...

    Hi im a friend of brandon and my prayer is out to the whole family brandon hang in there buddy i know how you feel i was close to my great grandmother to and its hard but you just have to go to our lord and savior for our grieve im sure your granfather watching over you brandon and when we graduate he will be looking over you and what ever you do in life he will still be with you in spirit May god bless your family through this hard time god bless andy strohmeyer brandon's friend

    I did not personaly know Marty, but I have heard great stories aobut him from Brandon and other people that were close to him. I wish to send my condolances to the whole Lanagan family, especilly you Brandon, I know the two of you were very close. May he rest peacefully with the Lord untill the day we all reunite.
