Martha J. Hugus, 92, of Steubenville, Ohio died Saturday, May 6, 2006 at Country Club Manor, Steubenville. She was born June 28, 1913 in Altoona, PA the daughter of the late Ira and Betsy Gates. Preceding also in death was her twin brother Ira Gates; four brothers and four sisters. Martha was a loving christian lady and a very talented artist. Early in her career she was a registered nurse at Ohio State Children’s Hospital, Columbus, Ohio. She was a member of LaBelle View Church of Christ; Order of the Easter Star 414. Survived by her husband George E. Hugus Sr., whom she married on May 28, 1938; a son George E. (Nancy) Hugus Jr., of Salem, Ohio; a daughter Nancy (David) Murray of Steubenville; five grandchildren Jeff (Brenna) Hugus and Melissa (Brian) Carter both of Salem, Ohio, David (Mirti) Murray of Davie, Florida, Dr. William (Debra) Murray of Columbus, Ohio and Carrie (Michael) Meade of Cincinnati, Ohio; 10 great grandchildren. Friends may call at the Dunlope-Shorac Funeral Home, 215 Fernwood Road, Wintersville Monday 6-8 p.m. Friends may call one hour prior to funeral services Tuesday 11 a.m. with grandson Jeffrey E. Hugus officiating. Burial at Union Cemetery, Steubenville.
